How to install an eSIM

Install the eSIM at home while you have Wi‑Fi and turn it on when you arrive — the plan's validity starts on first connection. Menu names may differ slightly between phones.

iPhone

  1. 1Connect to Wi‑Fi.
  2. 2Tap "Install on iPhone" (iOS 17.4 and later). Or: Settings → Mobile Data → Add eSIM → Use QR Code — and scan the code from another screen.
  3. 3Name the line, e.g. "Hopsim". Keep your main SIM for calls and iMessage.
  4. 4Choose the new eSIM for mobile data — you can do this once you arrive.
  5. 5On your trip: Settings → Mobile Data → select the eSIM → turn on "Turn On This Line" and "Data Roaming".

Samsung

  1. 1Connect to Wi‑Fi.
  2. 2Settings → Connections → SIM manager → Add eSIM → Scan QR code from service provider — and scan the code from another screen.
  3. 3Nothing to scan with? Choose "Enter activation code" and type the SM-DP+ address and activation code.
  4. 4On your trip: SIM manager → Mobile data → choose the eSIM.
  5. 5Connections → Mobile networks → turn on "Data roaming".

Pixel and other Android

  1. 1Connect to Wi‑Fi.
  2. 2Settings → Network & internet → SIMs → Add SIM (or "Download a SIM") — and scan the QR code from another screen.
  3. 3Nothing to scan with? Look for "Enter it manually" and type the SM-DP+ address and activation code.
  4. 4On your trip: choose the eSIM for mobile data.
  5. 5Turn on "Roaming" in this eSIM's settings.

Good to know

  • A QR code can be scanned once, from another screen — a laptop, tablet or printout.
  • Don't delete the eSIM while you still need it: it usually can't be reinstalled.
  • No internet on your trip? Check that the eSIM is selected for mobile data and data roaming is on, then restart your phone.
  • Your own SIM can stay on for calls and texts — data goes through the eSIM.
